Some of you may remember that I married my wife
Cindy
at the Base Chapel in Bainbridge, Ga. on July
2, 1955, which means we celebrated our 50th
Anniversary last
year.
After graduation from Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo,
TX, we were assigned to Ellington AFB in
Houston. We
spent almost two wonderful years at Ellington, made
a lot of friends and flew many hours in a
T-29,
navigator training plane. We left the Air Force in
Dec. of 57 and moved to Peoria, IL., where I went
to
work for a Commercial General Contractor. We built
schools, hospitals, factory buildings, dormitories,
parking decks, etc. I eventually left the original
Co. and started my own. I also became involved in
the
Restaurant business (I built two and ended up
with some Ownership) and now have seven Restaurants
located
in Illinois and Indiana.
We have two children, Kim who was born at Ellington
AFB and Michael who was
born in Peoria. Kim is
married and has two sons - Brad who is a senior at
Iowa State and will be going to
Medical School next
fall and Matt who is a junior in HS and is thinking
about De Paul. Michael is married
and is President
of a large General Contracting Company in Des
Moines, IA. He has a daughter and son - Ashley
is a
senior at the University of Iowa and will be going
to Law School next year and Ryan is a junior at East
Carolina University and is majoring in baseball and
hopefully something else.
Since retirement,
we have traveled quite a bit and
especially enjoyed hiking trips we took to Scotland,
France, Italy and the
Pacific Northwest. Then the
left knee decided it didn't want to do hiking
anymore. Other than that, I enjoy
fishing and
playing golf, which takes a considerable amount of
my time. Cindy retired from teaching second
grade
and now works part time as a floral designer as well
as being very active at our church.
Cindy
and I have been blessed with good health,
wonderful kids and our spoiled rotten Scottie,
Darby. We now spend
most of the year in Peoria and
the winter months in Ft Myers, Fl. We really look
forward to seeing old friends
in April. You'll know
me immediately; I have white hair.
