After graduating from Big Springs, Texas in 1956 and spending three months in Denver to train as an ammuntions officer,
I was assigned to Ladd Air Force Base, Fairbanks, Alaska. While in Alaska I flew T-33s just to maintain my flight status
and was discharged in March 1958.
In June 1958 I joined Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, NJ in their investment department as a financial analyst.
This turned out to be a quick experience as I resigned in August 1959 to join the Northern Trust Company in Chicago as an
investment research analyst in their trust department. I subsequently became portfolio manager of trust accounts until departing
the bank in September 1964.
I joined Smith Barney, a brokerage and investment banking firm in May 1964. I was an institutional stock broker
covering accounts in Denver and Chicago and became manager of the institutional equity office in 1978; as well as continuing
as a salesman. I was in that position until retirement in June 1995 after 31 years with the firm.
Janet and I were married in June 1954. We have three children and seven grandchildren ages 10-20. We are fortunate
that all three families live within 45 minutes of us. So we can remain in constant touch with them.
